In the film, Evey is the avenue through which the audience is able to approach the story and the issues it explores. Looking at the film through the prism of addressing the Bush era, she also represents the people of America who hold tongues about the unjustified actions of their government, such as issues of personal privacy and violations of civil liberties, such as Guantanamo Bay, and the use of torture (Ott, 2010).
While Evey begins her journey reluctant to join V in his revolution, she also does not agree with the government, but like so many others is afraid to act. Once she does take part in V's plans, it is the audience's pathway into considering a similar shift into action in regard to their own government's rules, restrictions, and absolute power (Ott, 2010).
