Adaptation
Film adaptations have been created based off of the foundations established from other sources, such as novels, plays, pieces of fiction or non-fiction, graphic novels, scripture, previous films, and other forms of written work.
Who is the Author?
Original vs. Adaptation
Massification
Issues of fidelity, the ownership over the ideas, characters, and story in the new version are questions often raised in concern to film adaptations (Kolb, 1991).
Some theorists claim that film adaptations just diluted, meager versions of the original (Thompson, 1996).
John O. Thompson presents the concept that the original source material has been diluted and simplified for the mass audiences to which films are presented (1996).
