Hugo Weaving is the other main villain in the film and his progression moves him from representing the Devil to a German man unable to love a woman simply because she is Jewish.  While not a sympathetic character even at his best, it is through the social constructs of the time period that frames the character of Kesselring that makes him bad, rather than the outright villainy that is Old Georgie.
