Hugh Grant plays six villains in the film, therefore his journey is one less about enlightenment and one more about his level of evil.  The character of the Kona chief is the least enlightened, as he is very basic and animalistic, whereas his most enlightened character is as a hotel heavy, whose actions are simply out of duty rather than evil motivations.
