Luisa Rey

Her actions bring down a criminal, powerful company, which would otherwise have sent the world into a downward spiral. She also strikes the bond with Tom Hank's soul line in the form of Isaac Sachs, which enables his reincarnation, Zachry, to fulfill his destiny in conjunction with Rey's reincarnated soul, Meronym.

Zachry

He makes choices that go against his initially cowardly and selfish nature in order to save Meonym, whose actions go on to save humanity.

Adam Ewing

He and his wife Tilda make the decision to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, which is a choice that keeps reoccurring for these two soul characters throughout the film and influences each storyline in which they appear.

Timothy Cavendish

It is Timothy's story that gives Yoona-939 the idea to stand up for herself and not withstand injustice. Her actions and death make an imprint on Sonmi-451, goes on to learn about the injustices of the world and rebel against them.

Robert Frobisher

From reading the book written by Adam Ewing in the 1800s to composing the Cloud Atlas Sextet, which is a clue for Luisa Rey, Frobisher is entangled in several of the story arcs of the film and his actions during the 1930s is an instigator for many reoccurring themes and events throughout the film.

Sonmi-451

She becomes a martyr and eventually a god to those in the dystopian future due to her movement for change and inspiring words, which in turn affects Zachry in his efforts to overcome the influences of Old Georgie.
